International SEO at a Glance Part 1

What is International SEO?
International search engine optimisation (ISEO) is the process of optimising your website in the international environment so that search engines can identify the countries you wish you reach, by gaining visibility in different search engines or different country versions of the same search engine. Essentially it is identified as geo-targeting.
It involves producing content that is relevant for the users in different target areas and time zones, where several languages are spoken and different currencies are used.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is primarily made up of four activities: making technical adjustments to your website, creating useful content, building high quality inbound links and analysing results. This is international, no matter what country, language or search engine you are targeting therefore this is vital for any SEO campaign.
The benefits of an effective ISEO campaign include: increasing visibility in the search engine results and bringing more traffic to your website, which leads to a higher conversion rate, which in turn generates more business and increases revenue.
The process of SEO requires a strong understanding of your target market, their internet behaviour, and your key marketing messages.
Who is International SEO for?
ISEO is an essential part of the marketing mix for any company that trades overseas, or is looking to expand into foreign markets in the near future. It is something you should consider if the following applies to you:
- Your business has a significant worldwide customer base
- You are trying to extend your reach to new international markets
- You currently operate or are looking to operate your business locations in different countries
- You have customers speaking first languages other than English.
