Is Your eCommerce Site Designed Around Your Customers?

On average, it takes 3 seconds to make a first impression. With this in mind, you have 3 seconds to capture the attention of a potential customer, draw them in and get them excited about your brand or product. Sounds like a tough task, right? That’s why web design is so important for the success of your business.

Who are you targeting?

Probably one of the most important things to consider is who your target audience is.
Are they male or female?
What is their age range?
What are their interests?
An eCommerce store selling leather briefcases, target at professional males in their late 20’s - 30’s will be very different to a site that is designed to capture the attention of 16 -25 year old females interested in fashion.
Generally speaking, an eCommerce site aimed at a younger audience will be more bright and colourful, often containing more images and technological features where, in contrast, a website designed to appeal to an older market will be designed without all the bells and whistles, producing a more sleek and stylish site.

Does the site correctly reflect your business?

The design of your site should reflect your business and what it is you’re really about.
What do you sell?
What industry are you in?
Where do you sit within the industry?
It goes without saying that the type of eCommerce site you own will influence the design of your online store. For instance the design of a DIY store selling electric drills will be much more functional, stripped back and to the point than a store selling hair accessories.
As well as considering what you sell and who you’re selling to, you need to bear in mind where you sit within the industry compared to your competitors and where you want to sit in the industry – after all, a leading company needs a leading eCommerce design!
